Tower Hamlets HIV needs assessment
In London, rates of HIV are increasing, but people with HIV are living for longer. Both health and social care agencies need to work well together to address the complex needs of people living with HIV, and better prevent future cases among those at risk. Options was commissioned to conduct a HIV needs assessment. The project firstly reviewed local data, mapping areas of ill health against poverty, so that commissioners could understand where areas of high need were, and who needed more access to services (including HIV testing). A review of the evidence identified areas what health and social needs were likely to be expected among those who were diagnosed, but living longer due to good access to treatment. Finally, the project used qualitative method to talk with people living with or at risk of HIV, to understand how services could better respond to their current and future needs.
