In Kenya, around 5,000 maternal deaths, nearly 29,000 newborn deaths and over 31,000 stillbirths occur each year because of the poor quality of health care. This brief demonstrates how Options’ Maternal and Newborn Improvement for Quality of Care (MANI-QC) project built the capacity of four Kenyan counties (Kericho, Nandi, Kwale and Mombasa) and service providers to better identify gaps in the quality of emergency obstetric and newborn care and to develop plans to address them through an app-based QuIC approach.
