Malawi faces serious challenges for the financing of its health sector. Although the government has increased domestic contributions to health each year – allocating nearly 10 percent of its total budget in 2018 which is a higher proportion than many neighbouring countries per capita health spending in real terms remains very low.

Here is how the Women’s Integrated Sexual Health (WISH) programme increased visibility of the family planning budget and helped to raise domestic funding for family planning commodities.
