Milton Keynes LGBT needs assessment
Understanding the health needs of a local population is essential to building better services, but this may be harder in areas where the population is more diverse. Milton Keynes Council recognised that their local area had a sexually diverse population, and wanted to understand more about how they viewed their local health needs and services. In 2013, they commissioned Options to conduct a health needs assessment focusing on sexual identity and diversity. The project worked with many different people who wanted to see better health services in Milton Keynes, such as local LGBT people, health and social care experts, young people and youth leaders. The project used different methods to gather people’s views, including an online survey, qualitative interviews, and a review of data on health and social issues among specific groups of people. The report recommended action to make health and social care services more LGBT-friendly, improving access to primary, mental health and lifestyle services.
