Options’ Regional Director Kenneth Macharia has written an article on the vital role of community health promoters in delivering Kenya’s community health strategy. The piece was part of the Kenyan Ministry of Health’s newly launched community health promoters magazine ‘Afya Nymbani’.

The article centres on Kenya’s President  H.E. William Samoei Ruto’s recent commitment to bring in a workforce of 100,000 dedicated community health promoters who will each serve 100 households cross Kenya. By addressing health challenges at their roots, these promoters contribute significantly to reducing the burden on the healthcare system, improving quality of care and building robust referral pathways. Their integration into the fabric of primary healthcare delivery represents paradigm shift that paves the way for more effective and compassionate healthcare.

At Options, we believe that community health promoters in Kenya serve linchpins in the delivery of primary healthcare and that quality care is a fundamental right for all. Establishing well-defined referral pathways that offer individuals comprehensive support from preventative to diagnostic treatment will ultimately help make the country’s vision of making health for all a reality.
